Pricing Challenges

Before implementing Symson, we faced several key challenges in maintaining a competitive edge in the bus transportation industry. Managing 300 buses across multiple routes and ensuring accurate pricing while adapting to real-time market changes was a significant struggle. We had difficulty scraping competitor prices, aligning our pricing with availability, and making data-driven decisions to optimize our margins.   1. Technical: Complex Clickpaths for Competitor Price and Availability Scraping
    We faced challenges gathering pricing and availability data from our top five competitors. Their booking websites involved multiple steps, such as selecting dates, destinations, and travel options, making it difficult for us to accurately scrape prices. The complex clickpaths added significant technical barriers to automating this process.

  1. Difficulty Extracting Seat Availability from Visual Bus Maps
    Extracting availability data was particularly challenging due to the use of visual bus maps on competitor websites. These maps often displayed available seats using non-text indicators such as colors or icons, making it hard to automate the collection of accurate seat availability data.

  1. Strategic #1: Lacked Data-Driven Price Positioning
    We did not have a clear understanding of our market position because we lacked comprehensive competitive pricing data. This left us unable to strategically adjust our prices in comparison to both high-end and lower-end competitors, which limited our ability to maintain a competitive pricing strategy.

  1. Strategic #2: Struggled to Respond to Competitor Pricing Changes
    We were unable to dynamically adjust our pricing in real-time to respond to changes in competitor prices. This inability hindered our capacity to optimise margins, whether by lowering prices to increase sales or raising them when our competitors increased theirs.

    We struggled to align our pricing strategies with actual bus availability. Without accurate data on our competitors’ bus occupancy rates and availability, we missed opportunities to adjust prices based on supply and demand. This led to missed chances to either increase revenue when buses were nearly full or lower prices when seats went unfilled.

Introducing the Solution Developed by Symson

The data is delivered via an XML feed and fast-operating API, ensuring seamless integration into our systems. This automation allowed us to accurately gather pricing data across multiple routes, travel dates, and options, ensuring comprehensive data collection without manual input.


Image Recognition for Seat Availability

To tackle the challenge of visual bus maps showing seat availability, Symson implemented advanced image recognition scripts. These scripts download and analyze images from competitor websites, accurately identifying seat availability by interpreting visual indicators such as colors and icons.

XML Feed and Fast-Operating API for Seamless Integration

Symson delivers the scraped data, including prices and availability, through a fast-operating API and XML feed. This ensures seamless integration with our existing systems, allowing us to access real-time data efficiently and adjust operations accordingly.
